This identity began with key words that represent the values of Textiles Museum and Workshop: convergence, collaboration, experimentation, expression, and transformation. Meaning developed when these identifiers were combined and juxtaposed: Experiment. Collaborate. Create. Transform.
Then a visual language took shape. The mark is one asterisk–like form, repeated. The repeat infers pattern, relationship, communication, mechanism, work, symbiosis. The new mark, in conjunction with secondary graphic language has vitality and a voice that is representative of Textiles Museum and Workshop.
New York Fashion Week
This identity is a manifestation of a weekend-long research exercise that turned into a visual map of fashion and culture. I recognized that fashion describes the intersection of culture, art, people, influence, and inspiration. Then I created a language, a system of form, type, and image that would define New York Fashion Week.
Personal Project in Berlin; 2011
While in Berlin, the project began from an urge to communicate with people. Language being a bit of a barrier, the initial phase was non-verbal. I left a number of drawings throughout Berlin in a non-destructive manner. Each drawing was left with a link to the project blog. I left them behind as a means to open a conversation.
A one-day project for Eddie Opara at Pentagram, NYC. I created this during my internship in fall of 2012. It may still be available for purchase here, which incidentally is also a nice donation.
A redesigned identity for Freewaves, a cultural institution that facilitates creative exhibition of new media. The identity developed from an interest in the relationship of digital media and physical space. Both the mark and posters formally embody the inherent qualities of video and digital media, with applications including web, print, and environmental.
This project was produced during my first term at Art Center College of Design. It's a book of type studies in Frutiger.
Drawing is for everyone, not a select few. It's a way to think, express, feel, and to communicate. Kids are best at it, because they aren't hung up. Dogs would probably be the very best, if they tried. Best schmest. Hierarchy is for schmucks. All drawing is good.
